Character Analysis


Viola can be described as an innocent and friendly person.  She is also very dependent on her twin brother Sebastian, which was shown when she disguised herself because he was know where to be found. “I'll do my best To woo your lady: Aside yet, a barful strife! Whoe'er I woo, myself would be his wife.” This quote is when Viola says she loves Duke Orsion, which shows she is a caring character.  In the beginning of the novel Viola enters as a survivor of a shipwreck, where she ends up on the shore of Illyria.  Unlike her brother who suddenly disappeared after the shipwreck.  At this time she decides to disguise herself as a man named Cesario, which is one of the first main actions in this book.  “O that I served that lady And might not be delivered to the world, Till I had made mine own occasion mellow, What my estate is!” Viola not only hides her gender but her social rank too. She then takes a job as a servant at Duke Orsino’s court.  The Duke decides to give her a project, this project consist of making Olivia like the Duke.  Imediatly creating a love triangle where Viola loves Duke Orsino, Duke Orsino loves Olivia, and Olivia loves Cesario.
